When does UCAS Track update on A level results day

UCAS Track is an online system developed by UCAS that allows you to sign in and check the progress of your application to a UK university or college once you’ve submitted it.

The system will inform you of offers, replies and results.

After registering with UCAS, you need to choose a course, then choose a university and fill in the application form. The form can be used to apply for five different choices – this can be the same course at five different universities or five different courses at the same university.

Universities decide whether to make you an offer. Sometimes it’s conditional, meaning it’s based on exam results.

When you have heard back from the universities, you have to reply to the offers. Pick a preferred option as your firm choice. If the offer on your first choice is conditional, it’s a good idea to have a back-up choice just in case.

If your place is unconditional, it’s yours. If it’s conditional, the university will update your status when they have your exam results.

If you don’t end up getting a place, you can use Clearing to apply for more courses.

If you do better than expected, you could look for an alternative course if you want.

You may have thought that Track would change as soon as the clock strikes 12am on Thursday, however you’ll have to wait a little longer.

Your Track account will update at 8.00am, meaning that you’ll most likely know where you’re headed to university before even finding out your exam results.

Schools usually open around 9am for students to collect their exam grades.

Once decisions have been made by your chosen universities, and UCAS has been notified, you can expect to see the following:

Unconditional   – Your place on the course has been confirmed, whether it’s firm or insurance, or both.

Unsuccessful   – You’ve not been accepted by your choice or choices, but you can now enter Clearing.

Unconditional Changed Course   – You haven’t met the necessary grades for your offer, but the university have proposed a similar course that meets lower grade boundaries. They could also have offered deferred entry, but you have five days to decide on the opportunity.
